Install and Launch the App

Download and Install

Apex PDF & eBook Reader, also known as the Apex Reader, can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store. Simply click the link below and follow the provided instructions to download and install the app:

Launch the App

  • Click the Start button
  • Type “Apex PDF & eBook Reader
  • Locate and click on the matching app from the search result entries

Once the app finishes launching, it will display the main window.

Open Files

To open and view a file, choose one of the following methods:

Using the Open Button:

  1. Click the Open button, featuring a folder icon, to launch the Open File dialog box.

  2. Locate and select the file you wish to open.

  3. Click the Open button to proceed.

Enhance File Selection:

To streamline the process of finding specific document types:

  1. Use the File Type filter control, a drop-down combo box located at the bottom-right corner of the Open File dialog box.

  2. Select the desired file type(s) from the list, such as “All Supported File Types,” “PDF,” “eBook,” “Comics,” etc.

This feature simplifies the search, making it easy to focus on a particular type of document.

Drag-n-drop

The drag-n-drop method is functional when the app is initially launched, and the main window is empty.

To utilize this feature:

  1. Ensure the app is open and the main window is blank.

  2. From Windows Explorer, select a supported file.

  3. Drag and drop the file onto the app window.

The file will be automatically opened for your convenience.

 

Turn Pages Using the Page Control

The Page Control, situated on the bottom toolbar, displays the current and total page numbers at its center.

Navigate to a Specific Page:

  1. Click the current page editor box.
  2. Type the desired page number.
  3. Press Enter to jump to the specified page.

Page Turning Functions:

The four buttons on the Page Control offer the following functions:

  • Go to the first page of the document.
  • Move to the previous page.
  • Move to the next page.
  • Go to the final page of the document.

 

Turn Pages Using the Keyboard:

Experiment with different options to turn pages sequentially:

  • Next Page: Page Down button, Down Arrow Key ▼, Left Arrow Key ►, or Enter key.
  • Previous Page: Page Up button, Up Arrow Key ▲, Right Arrow Key ◄, or hold the Shift key and press Enter.

 

Table of Contents (T.O.C.):

Utilize the Table of Contents feature (also known as Bookmarks) to navigate through an eBook or document.

  1. Click the T.O.C. icon in the side toolbar to display Bookmarks.
  2. Select a bookmark to navigate to the corresponding content.

Note: Bookmarks must be embedded in a document to use the Table of Contents feature.

Zoom and Layout

The Apex Reader provides three groups of settings to help customize the way a document is displayed: Page Layout, Scrolling, and Zoom, which work independently but with each other.

Page Layout

  • Single Page mode: Displaying one page at a time for focused reading.
  • Two Page   mode: Showing two pages side by side, commonly used for books or documents.
  • Book View mode: similar to the Two-Page mode, the first page (the cover) comes up by itself. It is also known as the Facing Page mode
 

Scrolling

Click the Scrolling button to toggle the Scrolling mode on or off. When Scrolling mode is off, turning a page results in the display of the next or previous page, instead of scrolling.

 

Zoom

The Apex Reader offers the Zoom controls and the Zoom shortcuts buttons, all of which are situated at the right-bottom of the app window.

Zoom Controls

The Zoom controls include Zoom Out and Zoom In buttons, along with a list of per-configured zoom levels for selection.

Zoom Shortcuts

The Zoom Shortcuts, from left to right:

  • Fit Page:
    • Adjusts the entire page to fit within the viewer window, scaling it to maintain the aspect ratio.
  • Actual Page:
    • Displays the document at its actual, original size in a 1:1 scale, providing a true representation of the document’s size.
  • Fit Width:
    • Adjusts the document’s width to fit the viewer window, with proportional adjustment of the height.
  • Fit Height:
    • Adjusts the document’s height to fit the viewer window, with proportional adjustment of the width.

Search Content

Start a Search:

  1. From the top toolbar, click the edit box labelled “Search.”
  2. Enter a single keyword or a string.
  3. Press Enter to initiate the search.

Adjust Search Settings:

  • Toggle “Match Case” on or off based on your search requirements.

Navigate Search Results:

  • To move through search results, use the arrow keys:
    • Next match: Click the > key to move to the next location with a match. Click again to continue navigating.
    • Previous match: Click the < key to move to the previous location with a match. Click again to continue navigating.

Search Result Navigation Modes:

  • Clicking the < or > key sets the navigation mode to either “Previous Match” or “Next Match.” In these modes, pressing Enter displays the match before or after the current one.

  • Comic book files(*.cbz; *.cbr; *.cbt; *.cb7)
  • DjVu (*.djv; *.djvu)
  • Microsoft Compiled HTML Html (*.chm)
  • XPS (*.xps; *.oxps; *.xod)
  • Images (*.jpg; *.png; *.gif; *.webp; *.tiff; *.tga; *.j2k; *.bmp; *.dib)
